Ventilation is the supply of fresh air in place of hot, or stale, contaminated air within a building or dwelling, increasing the quality of the atmosphere. Through openings in roof and/or facade, ventilation regulates the indoor climate and changes the air within a building. Natural ventilation is the most practical ventilation system to decrease energy usage in buildings, reduce carbon footprint, and promote safe atmospheres.
Arcadia has developed a comprehensive range of Natural Ventilation systems that allows engineers and designers to integrate natural ventilation into a variety of building types and configurations, provide a comfortable environment, and reduce energy consumption relative to mechanically conditioned buildings. See all the Natural Ventilation products here.
Benefits
The information of natural ventilation into buildings provides several significant benefits summarised as follows:
- Supply of fresh air
- Removal of moisture, smoke, heat or stale contaminated air
- Improves morale and workplace health
- Environmentally friendly
- Reduces operating costs
- Compliance to governing Building Codes
How is Ventilation required under Australian Standards and BCA
The Building Code of Australia (BCA) states “Natural ventilation … must consist of openings, windows, doors or other devices which can be opened – with a ventilating area not less than 5% of the floor area of the room required to be ventilated”.
AS1668.4 states “Natural ventilation shall be provided to an enclosure by direct ventilation openings that have an area not less than 5% of the floor area of the enclosure”.
Using Tested and Engineered Performance Ventilation
When using ventilation for your building solutions, a definable and guaranteed outcome can only be achieved where the products are tested and perform.
All products must be tested to AS4740 and meet the requirements for Cd (Coefficient of Discharge), Rain Defence, Fire & Smoke and Wind Loading Resistance.
